The Twin Towers, also known as the World Trade Center, were a complex of seven buildings in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The centerpiece of this complex was the Twin Towers, two identical 110-story skyscrapers that stood as a symbol of New York City's economic power and prosperity.

The construction of the Twin Towers began in 1966 and was completed in 1973. The buildings were designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki and engineering firm Leslie E. Robertson Associates. The towers reached a height of 1,368 feet (417 meters), making them the tallest buildings in the world at the time.

Upon their completion, the Twin Towers were immediately recognized as architectural masterpieces. They featured innovative design elements such as a steel tube structure and a curtain wall system, which allowed for a tremendous amount of natural light to enter the buildings.

The Twin Towers also became iconic symbols of the United States of America. They were featured in countless movies, TV shows, and photographs, and served as a beacon of hope for millions of people around the world.

Unfortunately, the Twin Towers also became the target of a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Terrorists hijacked two passenger planes and deliberately crashed them into the towers, causing them to collapse and killing almost 3,000 people.

The attack had a profound impact on not only New York City but the entire world. The symbols of the Twin Towers were forever altered, and the tragedy of that day still resonates with people around the globe.

In the aftermath of the attack, plans were made to rebuild the Twin Towers. However, it was ultimately decided to construct a new building in their place: One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower.

Although the Twin Towers no longer stand, they will always be remembered as one of the greatest architectural achievements in modern history. And, unfortunately, they will also always be a tragic reminder of the devastating events of 9/11.
